Establishing routines is an effective way to reinforce behaviors that promote a safer and more productive job site. Along with regular walk-around inspections and start-up procedures, drivers should follow a few simple steps before operating heavy duty equipment to protect themselves and their co-workers from accidental injuries. The following video covers a few easy-to-follow steps to performing a daily cab check in your Cat® equipment.
Hey, this is Dave with today’s Quick Tip.
Here are a few pointers to keep you safe and comfortable while you operate.
Before entering your cab make sure your backup camera is clear of debris.
Upon entering the cab fasten your seat belt and lower your lap bar.
Next, adjust your air ride seat to ensure you have a direct line of sight to both sides of your attachment and a clear view of your rear-view mirror.
Next, let your arms rest naturally at your sides.
Then adjust your control pods to that position.
Finally, use your in-cab display to ensure your backup camera is working properly.
So, doing these few things every day will keep you safe, comfortable, and aware of your surroundings.
That was today’s quick tip.
Thanks for watching.
Add Cab Inspections to Your Daily Routine
A basic cab check, as described in the video, is a simple way to reduce job site incidents while ensuring your equipment is ready to operate. Have your drivers follow an inspection checklist before every shift, starting with making sure nothing is blocking the view of the backup camera and noting potential hazards in the direct vicinity of the equipment. Something as simple as buckling your seat belt and lowering your lap bar can prevent a serious injury when operating heavy equipment.
New Cat equipment such as skid steer loaders and hydraulic excavators offer operator stations designed for optimal comfort and safety. Special features such as air ride seats, large side and rear-view mirrors and adjustable arm rests and control pods can be customized to your ergonomics to reduce fatigue and improve precision performance. Having completed their cab inspection checklist, drivers will be able to proceed with confidence knowing their equipment is working properly and they are aware of their surroundings.
